Lots of activities are underway this month at DTE Energy in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month. DTE Energy employees proudly participated in the American Cancer Society’s “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk” Saturday, Oct. 13, at Detroit’s Ford Field. The walk is a powerful and inspiring opportunity to unite to honor breast cancer survivors; increase awareness about the disease; and raise money for the Cancer Society’s breast cancer causes and research.
Other DTE employees, like Mary Jo Hicks-Sullivan who works in the Corporate Affairs department, also supported the cause this month. For the 5th year, she organized an event where employees in her department contributed to the cause in exchange for a jeans day on Oct. 19. For Hicks-Sullivan the efforts have a very personal connection. Her mother passed away 23 years ago from breast cancer. In the past two decades, Mary Jo has raised more than $10,000 through various initiatives that build support for those currently battling breast cancer and in memory of those who lost the fight.
“I do this in honor of my mom and in the hope that no other women, including my daughters, will have to wage this battle,” she said. “Whether it helps spread the message of early detection or helps find the cure, I feel that I am a ‘Pink Warrior’ making a difference.”
Mary Jo and the employees who joined the” Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk” are a few of the many DTE employees participating throughout the year in numerous community initiatives to educate others on this disease. WE DTE is proud of all of their efforts!
